Ulcers are usually caused by bacteria, oddly enough. Note that, because he was a vetrinarian, Dr. Marshall wasn’t really heard in the medical community. Not until he quaffed a beaker of the bacteria and developed the “mother of all ulcers” did recognition begin to form.
